Harpreet Brar put in an incredible performance against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The 25-year old was adjudged the player of the match, for his all-round display against Virat Kohli’s men. Brar picked up three wickets with the ball, that helped his side register only their third victory. He picked up the crucial wickets of Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers in quick succession.
With the bat, he made a vital contribution, scoring 25 runs which helped Punjab Kings put a respectable total on board. KL Rahul was pleased with Brar’s performance, and stated that the management were preparing him for his first game of the season.
“We were preparing Brar,” Rahul said at the post-match presentation. “On a pitch like this, we felt like we needed a finger spinner who could hit hard lengths. He did exactly that,” he added.
Harpreet Brar revealed that his objective was to bowl dot balls against some of the best batsman in the RCB team. Brar wanted AB de Villiers to play his shots, that could allow him an opportunity to claim his wicket.
“My plan was to bowl short and let him [AB de Villiers] play his shots. The ball was gripping, so that was the plan. That’s why there was a slip fielder and the cover fielder was a bit up as well. I was aiming to bowl dots but I got a wicket there, so I am blessed,” Brar said.
Punjab Kings now have three wins in their seven games so far, and are currently fifth on the points table. Next up, they will face Delhi Capitals on Sunday. Last time the two sides clashed against each other, Rishabh Pant’s men secured a convincing six wicket over PBKS. KL Rahul has been in fine form this season, having already scored four half centuries this season. The Indian opener has scored 331 runs in his seven innings so far, at an average of 66.20 and a strike rate in the mid-130s.
