Kuldeep Yadav should replace Shahbaz Nadeem for 2nd Test against England: Aakash Chopra

It goes without a doubt that several questions have been raised regarding India’s team selection following the heavy defeat in Chennai in the very first Test against England. Kuldeep Yadav has been with the squad for a long time and was thought to be in contention to start following Ravindra Jadeja’s injury in the Australian tour. However, for the first Test Shahbaz Nadeem was given the nod ahead of him.

Shahbaz Nadeem finished the game with bad figures and did little to inspire further confidence in his selection. Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra believes Kuldeep Yadav should be chosen as the spinner for the second Test against England and that he should’ve been selected in the first Test as well.

Just before the first Test began, information surfaced that Axar Patel who was most likely to start was injured and would end up missing the test. Aakash Chopra thinks Kuldeep Yadav would’ve been a better candidate to replace him in the first Test instead of Shahbaz Nadeem.

“It’s a given that Kuldeep Yadav should play in place of Nadeem in the next Test. In my opinion, he should have played in this match as well, but they didn’t do that, which is not right but play him now,” said Aakash Chopra in one of his Facebook videos where he discussed the match.

“But in the Indian team, Kuldeep deserves to play and maybe Axar Patel in place of Washington Sundar. Although Sundar scored 85 not out, I am still saying that they may not play him in the third Test,” concluded Chopra. He also stated that the pitch could prove to be a rank turner in the second Test after it attracted a lot of attention and criticism in the first match.

“I feel the toss will be immaterial on the pitch that will be made for the next Test match so that the match does not go in the other team’s favour even if you lose the toss. So, expect a rank turner where the ball will turn from the very first day,” said Chopra as quoted by Sportskeeda.
