Punjab Kings, led by KL Rahul, faced their second consecutive defeat as they were beaten by Delhi Capitals on Sunday. PBKS put up a good score of 195 runs on the board, which was chased down by the opposition, courtesy of a splendid knock from Shikhar Dhawan. However, Punjab found themselves in the driving seat in the 12th over, with the score reading 122 for the loss of no wickets.
Mayank Agarwal scored a quickfire knock of 69 runs off just 36 balls, whereas, KL Rahul played second fiddle to his partner. Just when it looked as if Rahul would accelerate, he lost his wicket and was dismissed for 61 runs off 51 balls. The middle-order could not inflict much damage, and as a result, Punjab finished 20 runs short of what they were destined at one point. Shahrukh Khan and Deepak Hooda scored a few useful runs towards the end of the innings to guide their side to a good score.
Aakash Chopra was critical of KL Rahul and his passive approach and blamed him for his side’s defeat against Delhi Capitals. “When Mayank Agarwal got out, KL Rahul was required to accelerate a little, something he did in the first match. He had missed out on a century, but the acceleration was there. Here also the expectation was that he would hit. He did not do that, and when he looks back, he will regret a little because the finish was not strong,” said Chopra in a video uploaded on his YouTube Channel.
Aakash Chopra also stated that KL Rahul should have scored more runs, and his slow knock put the pressure on Chris Gayle, who also lost his wicket. “Gayle was also dismissed after that. You wanted to score 60-70 runs in the last five overs. You didn’t score those many, and because of that, you didn’t reach around 220, where you should have probably reached,” added Aakash Chopra.
