Former England captain Michael Vaughan who led the Three Lions in that famous Ashes win in 2005 believes Glenn Maxwell will emerge as the hottest property in the next auction of the Indian Premier League. After an underwhelming IPL season with Kings XI Punjab in 2019, Maxwell has been at his very best against India in the ODI series and turned out to be an important figure in deciding the fate of the series. It was because of his blitzkrieg at the death in the first two ODIs that Australia was able to post 350+ totals.
Against India, he has managed 167 runs at a sublime average and strike rate of 83.50 and 194.18 respectively. The Victorian all-rounder has also hammered 12 fours and 11 sixes- which is the most for any batsman in the series. Michael Vaughan also credits Australia for providing Glenn Maxwell with the perfect slot to come in and cause plenty of destruction.
“I don’t think there is any white-ball team in the world that wouldn’t want Maxwell. I’m pretty sure next time in the IPL auction, most of the teams will look for Glenn Maxwell. Look what Australia have done, they have found the right place for him – at no. 7, and I don’t think they’ll move him too much unless obviously, they get off to the fliers,” Vaughan told Cricbuzz.
Vaughan also lauded the fielding expertise of Maxwell who’s athletic on the pitch and makes it hard for batsmen to steal runs away from him. “I think his fielding is pretty much guaranteed that he is going to probably save 5 to 10 runs in the field. So, he is already in my eyes when he goes out to bat, on 10. I mention that most of the batsmen start on nought, Maxwell starts on 10 because he is that good in the field,” he stated.
“As I said there is no team in the world that wouldn’t want Glenn Maxwell with what he brings all around,” Vaughan added.
